Bonnie Schneider
Following my graduation from the Bachelor of Music program (Boston University 1963) However, following that I was witnessing the liberal arts as a teacher (Brown University, 1971-75) and convinced that education should be one that integrates study of the arts along with studies in many other fields. This is not surprising coming from an ethnomusicologist with acquired an MA in 1967 and earned a Ph.D. in the field of ethnomusicology from UCLA. This isn't a surprise since the ethnomusicology department located at UC Berkeley, where I was an instructor from 1975 to 1976 is located in the college of letters and Science's Department of Music. It's a pleasure to be able to combine several areas of interest. I enjoy looking at the whole overall picture. It's a pleasure to teach both graduate and undergraduate students. I am an published and the author of three volumes: Music in India: the Classical Traditions; Thinking Musically and Music in Japan, Experiencing Music and Expressing Culture. My teaching schedule will then alternate between academic activities and periods of administrative tasks (I served as Chair of Department of Music from 1983 through 1988, and Dean of Undergraduate Advising from 1992 to 1998 and Chair of the College of Letters and Science Deans from 1994 to 1998; Chair of Group of Asian Studies from 1999, and now am back as Chair of Department of Music).
